Barring any nasty weather, there will be some fun and informative activities this week in the Central Carroll area.
The Better Breathing Group, sponsored by the American Lung Association of Maryland and Tri-Home Health Care and Services Inc., will meet at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Timber Ridge Community Center in Westminster.
The topic, "Using Your Medications Effectively," will be presented by Dennis Rosenbloom, a pharmacist with Schmitt's Rexall Pharmacy in Westminster.
The Better Breathing Group is a local, educational and social support group for adults with asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis and their families. It meets the first Tuesday of each month at Timber Ridge Community Center.

If you have and would like to learn more about what a nursing career has to offer, then don't miss the "Nursing in the '90s Workshop" at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Catonsville Community College, 800 S. Rolling Road in Catonsville.
The same workshop will be offered again at Carroll Community College at 6 p.m. March 10 at the Washington Road campus in Westminster.
Both workshops will be presented by a panel of nursing faculty and current students and are geared to prospective and current nursing students.

The East Middle School PTA will serve an Italian spaghetti dinner Friday in the school's cafeteria. Seatings will be at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Ticket prices for adults are $5.50; students, $3.50; children under 5, free.
Entertainment will be provided by the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade chorus throughout the evening.

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its eighth annual Business Fair this weekend at the Cranberry Mall.
Some 50 area businesses will display exhibits Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the open areas of the mall.
Helen Utz, the chamber's executive director, said, "The business fair gives the public an opportunity to see what is available in Carroll County. There will be new products on display, as well as the old stand-bys."
Space is still available for businesses interested in participating.
Gifts and door prizes will be available.
The Hashawha Environmental Appreciation Center will host its annual Maple Syrup Festival at its complex off Route 97 in Westminster from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
A variety of activities for the whole family will be held throughout the afternoon. The highlight of the day will be the maple syrup demonstrations scheduled at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Free hayrides, crafts, movies, maple syrup taste testing and lots of good food will be available.
The Someares, a men's gospel group from Sandymount United Methodist Church in Finksburg, will supply live entertainment at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The festival is free and open to the public.
