Mulholland, 29, who was 13-11 in 1992 with a 3.81 ERA, had asked the team for $3.1 million in arbitration and had been offered $2 million. A hearing had been scheduled for Friday. His salary last season was $1.25 million.
Basketball Minnesota Timberwolves -- Confirmed that rookie F Christian Laettner has been fined an undisclosed amount for his outburst during Saturday night's game against the Houston Rockets. Laettner reportedly shouted an obscenity at assistant coach Chuck Davisson, who had told him to take an open shot.
NBA -- Announced that Portland Trail Blazers G Terry Porter will replace Orlando Magic G-F Dennis Scott (injured right calf) in the AT&T; Long Distance Shootout on Saturday in Salt Lake City. Porter set an NBA record for three-point field goals without a miss when he went 7-for-7 on Nov. 14.
