Atlanta Braves -- Agreed to terms with P Mike Stanton on a one-year contract worth $850,000, a raise of $585,000, and IF Wally Backman on a minor-league contract. Invited Backman to spring training as a non-roster player.
California Angels -- Agreed to terms with OF Luis Polonia on a one-year contract worth $2,475,000, a raise of $825,000.
Colorado Rockies -- Agreed to terms with OF Dante Bichette on a one-year contract worth $725,000, a raise of $495,000.
Montreal Expos -- Agreed to terms with P Jimmy Jones on a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training as a non-roster player.
New York Mets -- Named Maury Wills part-time base-running instructor.
Atlanta Hawks -- Activated C Blair Rasmussen from the injured list. Waived F Alex Stivrins.

Denver Broncos -- Signed Wade Phillips as coach to a three-year deal worth a reported $400,000 a year.
New England Patriots -- Announced assistant coaches: Ray Perkins (offensive coordinator), Al Groh (defensive coordinator and linebackers coach), Romeo Crennel (defensive line), Fred Hoaglin (offensive line), David Atkins (offensive backs), John Parker (strength and conditioning), Mike Sweatman (special teams) and Charlie Weis (tight ends). Announced that Tom Bass, the club's VP of pro personnel and player assistance, had resigned.
NHL -- Announced that Detroit Red Wings coach Bryan Murray has been suspended for 10 games.
Calgary Flames -- Signed G Mike Vernon to a three-year contract worth $3.2 million over two years plus an option.
New York Rangers -- Announced D Mike Hurlbut and G Mike Richter have been added to the roster after conditioning assignments at AHL Binghamton. Sent G Corey Hirsch to Binghamton.
South Carolina (ECHL) -- Announced team name will be named Sharks.
Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games -- Announced that a $250 million deal for the European Broadcast Union to televise the 1996 Summer Olympics has been completed. The U.S. rights for the centennial Games in Atlanta have not yet been negotiated.
