2 community benefit districts proposed
Two bills creating community benefit districts for the South River Manor development near Annapolis and the Beverly Beach community in South County were introduced at Tuesday's County Council meeting.
The districts will levy a tax on community residents to cover the cost of special services. At South River Manor, the funds will pay for maintaining and improving community property, providing community security, insect and pest control, resurfacing private, community-owned roads, purchasing property for community recreation areas and administrative costs associated with these projects.
The levy in Beverly Beach will cover the cost of maintaining, protecting and repairing community facilities, including docks, bulkheads and shoreline, that are leased from the county.
Special community benefit districts are located in the communities of Cape St. Clair, Chartwell, Manhattan Beach, Severna Forest, Snug Harbor, South River Heights, South River Park and Southgate.
Public hearings on the bills will be held at the Feb. 1 council meeting.
