Service center will help retired federal workers
The Glen Burnie Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees will open its second service center next week to help federal retirees and their survivors resolve benefit-related problems.
The service center will open Dec. 10 at the Coast Guard Yard at Curtis Bay.
It will be staffed by a Glen Burnie NARFE volunteer from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday, said Ed Thomas, chapter president.
The Coast Guard is making the space and a telephone line available in Building I, Mr. Thomas said.
The 602-member Glen Burnie chapter opened a service center at Fort Meade about four years ago. It is operated Monday and Thursday mornings by representatives from the Glen Burnie and Bowie-Crofton chapters, he said.
The group hopes to open a third site next spring.

Weighty loot foils would-be burglars
Burglars tried to steal a safe Sunday night from the Wendy's restaurant in the 6900 block of Ritchie Highway.
Police said the safe was taken from under the counter where it was stored and taken outside in a handcart.
The burglars apparently had trouble moving the safe because of its weight and left it outside the back door.
