BALTIMORE COUNTY — About 50 animal rights protestors paraded in front of tw Towson furriers yesterday on the fifth annual "Fur Free Friday," a national day of protest against the use of animal skins in clothing.
Mark Rivkin, coordinator of the Maryland Forum for Animals, which organized the Towson protest, said his group is opposed to the use of animal skins and leather for human clothing because of alleged cruelty to the animals, which are raised and killed just for their skins.
The protestors shouted lustily as they marched in front of Mano Swartz Furs, in the 400 block of York Road, and Kent Fisher Furs, one block away in the first block of West Allegheny Ave.
Several marchers beat on drums and tambourines, while others wore animal costumes and carried signs. Some wore furs daubed with red paint or adorned with traps.
Richard Swartz, representing the store, said he had no comment on the protest.
