* Mo McDonough, St. Mary's, Sr., striker -- Despite facing constant double- and triple-teaming, McDonough led St. Mary's in scoring with 13 goals and eight assists. Nine of her goals either tied the score or gave the Saints the lead. She leaves as the school's all-time leader in goals (68) and assists (31), and was selected to the All-State first team. She received the most votes among county players for the state team.
* Michelle Salmon, Old Mill, Jr., striker -- Last year's county Player of the Year had another superb season with 19 goals and four assists. She raised her career totals to 59 goals and eight assists. A member of the national under-16 team and the All-State first team, Salmon received the most votes among Anne Arundel coaches for their All-County squad.
* Melissa Wagner, Chesapeake, Soph., striker -- This speedy underclassman had 17 goals and three assists while emerging as one of the biggest surprises of the season. "She seemed to have a nose for the goal," said coach Lin Sullivan, who brought up Wagner from the JV last season.
* Stacey Necessary, Chesapeake, Sr., striker -- Necessary, a three-year All-County selection, finished with 10 goals and eight assists. She was chosen to the All-State second team. Necessary moved from the middle to the outside during the season and flourished.
* Shelley Seivert, Severna Park, Jr., midfield/defense -- Seivert had nine goals and eight assists, and proved especially effective on direct kicks and re-starts. She was among the strongest players on the field, either at midfield or stopper, and was selected to the All-State first team.
* Amy Adams, Broadneck, Jr., midfield -- Adams clearly was the best player on a team that made the region finals. She contributed six goals, and was adept at distributing the ball. She was an All-State first team selection. "She was very consistent," said coach David Lord.
* Melissa Holmes, St. Mary's, Sr., midfield -- Holmes, a classic over-achiever, had seven goals and six assists and was named to the All-State second team. The four-year varsity player isn't blessed with great speed or agility, but "there is no better competitor around," said coach Jerry Tobin.
* Amy Carnaggio, Severna Park, Sr., midfield -- Carnaggio often was overlooked because of all the other talented athletes on her team, but "she's an all-around good player," said Stefancik. "When she had a good game, we had a good game." Carnaggio had two goals and four assists.
* Nancy Yeager, Chesapeake, Sr., defense -- Yeager was the leader of a defense that allowed just nine goals. An All-State honorable mention pick, she was effective using either foot. "She stepped into the sweeper position last year and made it her own," said Sullivan.
* Tricia Monmaney, St. Mary's, Sr., defense -- Monmaney, an All-State honorable mention choice, was the backbone of a defense that allowed 17 goals in 16 games. "She has excellent individual soccer skills and a superior field presence," said Tobin. "She's very intelligent."
* Lori Lynch, Old Mill, Sr., defense -- Coach Bruce Sponsler calls ++ Lynch "the little general." The All-State second-team member was the captain of the defense from her sweeper position -- a "take-charge" type who rarely got beat to a ball.
* Carrie Budzinski, Severna Park, Jr., defense -- Budzinski anchored a Severna Park defense that allowed just eight goals during the regular season and had eight shutouts. She was quick to the ball, and a huge asset for freshman goalie Shannon Chaney. Budzinski made the All-State second team.
* Erin Hon, St. Mary's, Soph., goalie -- Hon was chosen to the All-State first team after allowing 17 goals -- only six came on field play -- and making 136 saves. Hon is "without a doubt, the best goalie in the state," said Tobin. "Erin controls the 18-yard penalty box better than anyone. Every opposing coach has raved about her."
