The county Department of Utilities will test and clean water lines in North Linthicum and Crestwood until 3 p.m. today as part of its line maintenance program.

Customers should notice no difference, for the most part, in their water service, county officials said. But in some locations, service may be shut off temporarily, for half-hour periods. And some residents' water may be discolored.

The testing helps prolong the life of the water system, said public works officials, who have posted signs describing the testing.

A crew of three to four technicians will conduct the tests by installing pressure gauges on two fire hydrants and opening a third hydrant.

Water mains scheduled for the clean and line program will be tested to verify the quality of the cement lining.
