HCC offers courses in management, taxes
Howard Community College has scheduled two business courses this weekend.
"Total Quality Management -- Service Sector" will introduce the concepts of Total Quality Management to achieve customer satisfaction and improve management and service without increasing costs. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. The cost is $45.
"Tax Planning for the Sole Proprietorship" will review basic tax filing requirements and new legislation for 1992 that may reduce tax liability. The class will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Nov 28. The cost is $45.
Fashion Bug opens Chatham Mall store
Fashion Bug will celebrate the opening of its newest store in Chatham Mall today. The 9,650-square-foot store features girls', women's and men's fashions.
Columbia design firm honored for remodeling
Sinex Design of Columbia, in conjunction with Buschman Design Build, is the recipient of an honorable mention in the Remodeling Award of Excellence competition for 1992.
The project that received the honor is an addition to the Sinex Residence.
The awards were sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Maryland.
Columbia sales firm is agency of record
Marriner Marketing Communications, an advertising and sales promotion agency based in Columbia, recently announced that it was named agency of record by Service America Corp.
Marriner has worked with Service America since 1989, providing trade advertising, materials, collateral and other communication services.
Linda Birtel named recycling manager
Browning-Ferris Industries has named Linda Birtel as plant manager for the company's recycling plant in Elkridge.
Ms. Birtel has 12 years of management experience in the recycling business.
She was formerly employed with Edwards Enterprises in Philadelphia.
Columbia Arts Festival elects officers, board
The Columbia Festival of the Arts, Howard County's 10-day celebration of music, dance and theater, announced the election of officers: Jean Moon of Patuxent Publishing, president; Richard G. McCauley of Rouse Co., vice president; and Nancy Smith of Investor Relations and Public Affairs, treasurer.
Newly elected board members are Malynda Madzel of Custom Telemarketing Services and Thomas Beach of Storer Cable Howard County.
Lee Wilhide featured in Florist magazine
Lee Wilhide, owner of Wilhide's Flowers of Howard County, is featured in a six-page article in this month's issue of Florist magazine, an industry trade publication.
The article covers his involvement in the FTD Mercury Network and gives a history of the family-owned and operated business.
Ellicott City insurer serves on panel
