This week has been designated as American Education Week.
Visit your child's classroom and see what happens on a regular day-to-day basis. Children need to know that you are interested in their learning process. Watch your child's eyes light up when he or she knows the answer to a teacher's question and you are there to see it. Make your child's day and visit, whether it's all day or just during your lunch hour. They will appreciate it.
The following days have been set aside at our local schools:
North County High School, Tuesday. All parents are asked to register in the main office upon entering the building.
Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School, Tuesday. Be sure to know your child's schedule.
Belle Grove Elementary and Park Elementary schools, today; Brooklyn Park Elementary School, Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Belle Grove Elementary School news: Makeup day for individual pictures is Wednesday.
* The PTA Ways and Means Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. If you are interested in attending, call Sandy Gallagher at 789-8621.
* The Book Fair begins today and continues through the week. Parents can browse the selection while attending parent-teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday.
* The PTA will sponsor a bake sale on Thursday and Friday. If you can donate a baked good or your time, call 789-8621.
* The Human Relations Committee is collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for the Thanksgiving holiday. Deposit your food in the basket in the foyer.
Brooklyn Park Elementary School news: The Book Fair will begin today and continue through Wednesday. All classes will visit the fair at their appropriate time. Parents who would like to purchase books are welcome to stop by. Remember, books make great Christmas presents.
* Book-It is under way and going strong. The two classes that had the highest percentage of students reading at least 10 minutes per night during the month of October were Nancy Knox (second grade) and Henry McNeil (fourth grade). These two classes will be rewarded with an extra recess period. Keep up the good work.
* The Just Say No Club will meet from 3:15 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the media center. If you are a member, plan to attend.
Park Elementary School news: During this week, National Reading Week, the school will have guest readers that will include teachers, parents and Sen. Phil Jimeno. The annual FIRED (Falling Into Reading Every Day) Program will also begin. Students must fill out a FIRED form for every book they read. Students will have a chance to win a prize at the end of each of the four weeks.
Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School news: Thursday and Friday have been reserved as conference days for elementary and middle schools. Ninth-graders will follow senior high school schedule, with conferences scheduled after the next marking period.

North County High School news: the Fall Sports Banquet is tonight at Michael's 8th Avenue.
* Report cards will be distributed on Wednesday.
* Don't forget to order your poinsettias and fruit by calling 859-5400.
* Help the S.G.A. with their Thanksgiving Drive by contributing food, toys and clothing to the school.

St. Rose of Lima School is sponsoring a trip to New York City on Saturday, Dec. 12, to see the Broadway musical "Miss Saigon." The bus leaves St. Rose at 10 a.m. and arrives in New York City around 2 p.m.
The afternoon will be yours to Christmas shop or tour the city. Everyone will meet again at the Broadway Theatre for an 8 p.m. show. Departure will be at 10:30 p.m. from the theater. Tickets are $155 per person and can be obtained by calling 355-1050.

Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., is celebrating Homecoming Sunday. Church school will begin at 9 a.m. until 9:40 a.m. with one worship service at 10 a.m. The guest speaker will be Bishop Joseph H. Yeakel. All former church members are invited to return for this special service.

Harbor Hospital Center news: The center is offering a free community program on "Women's Health Issues: PMS and Menopause" beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Gruehn Auditorium.
Representatives from the Women's and Children's Division will discuss the symptoms of PMS and menopause and how women can cope with them. They will also explain the importance of seeing a physician and outline possible treatment. For more information, call 347-3445.

The Arundel Improvement Association news: The monthly meeting is planned for 8 p.m. Thursday. The agenda for the evening will include nomination of officers for 1993. If you are a current member and have attended at least three meetings, you are eligible to run for office.
* All C.A.S.O.S. members are encouraged to make plans to attend the Thanksgiving dinner beginning at noon tomorrow; plenty of delicious food, including turkey, will be served.
