RESPONSE
The lake ascending
in morning mist does not say
no to the sun's thirst.
EASE
I rest easily
on the knots of my hammock's
ropes that unknot care.
FIDELITY
Guiding
a band of old
nuns at a wedding,
I see, in their glad smiles, virgin
fiat.
TREES
The wet bones of November trees
wait like strong women in bare
branched splendor for the first
snow embrace of husbanding
winter.
VINTAGE LOVE
He knows
how to love her
with hands that have sense to
listen, with words that feel
when, where
to touch.
IMMIGRANT
To start
toward friendship
is to risk a frontier
where cows might look like
horses,birds
not sing.
TROPISM
Traveling inland,
my ears, so recently touched
by surf sounds, shrink from
street racket, metallic waves
that punch at my fragile peace.
