Chicago White Sox -- Claimed IF Shawn Gilbert (.245 with 31 steals for Triple-A Portland) off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. Promoted Doug Laumann from full-time scout to Midwest scouting supervisor.
Philadelphia Phillies -- Named George Culver manager of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Dave Cash coach of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
San Diego Padres -- Named Bruce Bochy third-base coach; Dan Radison first-base coach; and Dave Bialas bullpen coach.
Atlanta Hawks -- Announced that injured second-year G Stacey Augmon will return to the team for tonight's game against the Mavericks in Dallas. Augmon, who averaged 13.3 points as a rookie, had minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Oct. 30.
Sacramento Kings -- Placed G Spud Webb (torn wrist ligaments) on injured reserve. Signed G Stan Kimbrough.
NAIA -- Declared Rocky Mountain S Les Meyer ineligible and required Rocky Mountain to forfeit all its football games.
Central Connecticut -- Announced that G Ian Smith, a 1992 graduate of Poly who is spending the year at Milford (Conn.) Academy, will sign a basketball letter of intent. Smith is 6 feet 3, 200 pounds.
Tennessee -- Announced that they have bought out the final two years in the contract of Johnny Majors, football coach. He will relinquish the position at the conclusion of the season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Placed OT Rob Taylor on injured reserve.
British Columbia Lions (CFL) -- Fired Bob O'Billovich, head coach and vice president of football operations.
Flint Bulldogs (CHL) -- Released F Joe Musa and F Paul Caufield. Placed D John Heasty on the injured list retroactive to Nov. 8. Activated F Jason Simon and D Ken Spangler from the injured list.
Louisville Icehawks (ECHL) -- Added G Mike Greenlay to the roster after his return from IHL Atlanta.
Milwaukee Wave -- Signed G Al Gillette to a 15-day contract.
U.S. Davis Cup -- Coach Tom Gorman announced that Wimbledon champ Andre Agassi will headline the four-man team that includes John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Jim Courier in the Dec. 4-6 final against Switzerland in Fort Worth, Texas.
