Department store guard claims two shoplifted

A security officer at a department store in Crofton apprehended two alleged shoplifters Monday afternoon, one who police said tried to walk out of a Kmart store wearing shoes taken from the store.

A store employee told police he watched as the teen-ager removed a pair of $30 shoes from the rack and put them on. After a few minutes, he walked out of the store without paying.

The youth told police that he was checking the shoes and simply forgot to pay for them. Police issued a juvenile citation and the youth paid for the merchandise when his grandmother arrived at the store.

About 4:45 p.m., the security officer saw a 30-year-old man conceal merchandise worth $20 under his coat and walk out of the store.

Police told the store manager to seek an arrest warrant through a court commissioner.
