Engineers consider road closings
The county will consider closing off or placing restrictive traffic signs on several roads in Linthicum to alleviate pass-through traffic in residential areas of Benton Avenue and Edgewood Road, according to a report to be presented tonight to the Linthicum/Shipley Improvement Association.
In response to community complaints, county engineers studied traffic that uses the residential area as a shortcut between Camp Meade Road and Baltimore/Annapolis Boulevard.
The report lists one alternative as closing or re-signing several roads within the community. But it warns that doing so could force more traffic on to Sycamore Road, Homewood Road, Orchard Road or School Lane.
It also notes that a high volume of traffic along Benton and Edgewood hasn't led to an inordinate amount of speeding, compared with other residential areas.
The study says that the county has developed plans to extend West Ordnance Road from MD 648 to Camp Meade Road between Shipley Estates and Woodlawn Heights, which would solve the problems.
The association will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Linthicum Elementary School.
