EA Engineering, Science and Technology Inc.

This Hunt Valley-based engineering services company credits number of cost-cutting and cash-flow-enhancing measures taken earlier in the year for a profitable fourth quarter. The profits came despite a slight dip in revenues during the period and came in contrast to a loss in the same period last year.

The improved fourth quarter was not sufficient to offset earlier losses, however, leaving the company with a loss for the year. Edward V. Lower, president and chief operating officer, cited slower sales because of the national recession, which led to increased competition.
