Zepp to receive teaching award

Alan Zepp, an English teacher at Westminster High School, will receive the Maryland Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts High School Award on Friday.

He will accept the award for excellence in the teaching of language arts during the MCTELA's conference in Columbia.

* Westminster: The windshield of an automobile parked on North Colonial Avenue was damaged by someone with a BB gun on Sunday. The owner, Charles E. Clayville, estimated the loss at $200.

The rear license plate was removed from a car parked at Cranberry Mall on Monday. The loss is $20, said the victim, Ronald Wayne Symonds of Nicholas Road.

* Westminster: An auto fire on Brehm Road at 11:38 a.m. on Monday required the services of fire volunteers from Westminster.

A chimney fire in a house on Old Taneytown Road at 6:15 p.m. on Monday brought firefighters from Westminster and Pleasant Valley.

* Pleasant Valley: Firefighters investigated burning wires on Tyrone Road at 5:46 p.m. Monday and stood by for 48 minutes while crews from an electric company made repairs.
