A Francis Scott Key Junior Eagles junior varsity team has made the Mountain Valley Football playoffs for the first time in that Taneytown-based rec program's history.
Sunday, in Taneytown, the Junior Eagles earned the playoff spot by taking a 31-12 halftime lead and crushing Boonsboro, 43-18.
The Junior Eagles (6-3) play Damascus in the opening-round playoff game Saturday night in Damascus, and the winner will play in the MVL junior varsity conference super bowl.
The running duo of Larry Nail and Jason Zinkand scored all seven Key touchdowns Sunday, with Zinkand scoring four.
Quarterback Kory Jenkins' run accounted for the team's only conversion.
The Key jayvee, coached by Rick Grandinetti, will be the second Junior Eagles squad to compete in the MVL playoffs.
The other was the Junior Eagles pony team of 1981, which won its conference super bowl.
The Key varsity also closed out its regular season on a winning note by routing Boonsboro, 36-0.
Mitchell Plank and Jason Diehl each scored two touchdowns, and Tony Lessard and Jason Rosenbaum each scored one.
Quarterback Brad Stonesifer threw two touchdown passes.
Boonsboro beat Key, 22-0, in the pony game.

The Carroll County-based Mason-Dixon Rugby Club closed out its regular-season schedule by topping York (Pa.) twice Saturday at East Middle School in Westminster.
Mason-Dixon romped in the A side contest, 46-14, and blanked York in the B side game, 12-0.
Tim Desmond, Ed Johnson, Neil Myers and Scott Myers each scored two five-point tries in the opener, which Mason-Dixon led all the way.
Neil and Scott Myers each kicked a two-point conversion after tries, and Desmond added a two-pointer.
Lee Kuntz and John Twardzik scored tries in the B game, and Mike Piavis added a two-point conversion kick.

The Westminster Wolves, shut out in the first half, found the range after intermission and blanked host Hagerstown, 3-0.
Ed DeVincent scored twice for the Wolves (7-1-1) and Nick Hailstone added a goal.
With two regular-season games remaining, second-place Westminster trails league-leading Mercersburg (Pa.) by one-half game.
Mercersburg maintained that margin Sunday by blanking visiting North Carroll, 4-0.
Freedom Optimist soccer
Under-12 boys: Little Vinnie's pulled into first place by edging McDonald's, 2-1.
Amir Khaksari and Joey Kanieki scored Little Vinnie's goals, and Lee Pollack scored for McDonald's.
J. J. Fiorani knocked Sykesville Video into second place with a 2-1 win.
Tim Eagle and Joey Fiorani scored for the winners, and Jason Salony had Sykesville Video's goal.
Scott Carr and Steven Skiratko each scored two goals and Tommy Warner added one, as Prudential beat Marty's, 5-2.
Andrew Carr had three assists for Prudential, and Nick Swartout and Robbie Kessler scored for Marty's.

Pap Pap's Pizza overcame two regulation-time goals by Carroll County Sports Medicine's Doug Richmond to win, 3-2, on a shootout.
Josh Brandt and Stave Strickler scored for Pap Pap's, and Chris Evans had an assist for Sports Medicine. Pap Pap's was given credit for its third goal by virtue of winning the overtime shootout.
* Under-17 co-ed: First-place Columbia Blue blanked Kelly Green, 4-0, as Tim Shifflet scored twice and Melissa Martin and Nettie Vashbinder each added a goal.
Lime Green upended Pepto Pink, 4-1, behind goals by Josh Mohr, Kacie Granico, Stacey Smith and Brain Earp. Dan Emswiler scored for Pepto Pink.
Sandymount soccer
* Under-8: Blair Padbury's four goals paced the Thunderbirds to an 8-1 win over the Stingers.
Kevin Collins added two goals and Mike Schulteis and Hunter Hart one each for the Thunderbirds. Bryce Link had the Stingers' goal.
Tommy Cunningham's two goals and one by Ricky Fencil paced the Eagles to a 3-1 verdict over the Jazz. Chad Little scored for the Jazz.
The Masters blanked the Streaks, 3-0, behind two goals by Jake Zentz and one by Charles Simpson.
* Under-11: In a battle of first- and second-place teams, the Red Hot Chili Peppers handed the Royals their first loss, 1-0, as Ryan Ridgley scored.
Stealth topped the Blast, 4-0, behind goals by Jared Imhoff, Rachel Imhoff, Kara Weiland and Jerry Laumann.
The Rockets, with goals by Sean Clark and Tony Tringali, blanked the White Tigers, 2-0.
* Under-14: The Blue Angels were 30 seconds from winning their eighth consecutive game of the season Saturday, but Gold's Robby Henshaw scored and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Will Woolford and Todd Cheney scored for the Angels (7-0-1) and Kim McCurry had the other Gold tally.
The Stars and Red tied, 1-1.
