4 face charges after raid yields tally sheets, money, documents

Four men were charged with gambling violations after county police raided a Glen Burnie business Saturday and seized money, tally sheets and other documents they said was used in an illegal sports betting operation run at the business.

Vice squad officers raided Cheryl's Septic Services in the 800 block of Crain Highway at 10:45 a.m. They said the documents seized were used for taking bets on college and professional football games.

William S. Venizelos, 47, of the 300 block of Magothy Road in Severna Park; Michael H. Bell, 36, of the 1700 block of Floral Court in Crofton; John G. Christopolus, 49, of the 1600 block of Furnace Drive in Glen Burnie; and Paul S. Kummer, 43, of the 8400 block of Garden Road in Pasadena were charged with violating state gambling laws and conspiracy to violate gambling laws.

Public meeting set on Superblock

Glen Burnie residents will get another chance to tell county officials how they think the Superblock should be developed. A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Glen Burnie Improvement Association.

Officials want to "talk a little bit more about what they mean by community space," said Pat Barland, county commercial revitalization manager.

At the first forum in September, Glen Burnie residents said they wanted the approximately 5 acres along Ritchie Highway to include an area for community use.

"We hope to get a general idea of what the citizens of Glen Burnie would like to see built on the vacant land," Ms. Barland said.
