Programs offered by the Mount Airy 55 Plus Club are keeping area senior citizens informed about the charter government proposal for Carroll County.
The club's president, Ralph Pickett, said members will have the opportunity to hear an opposing view to the charter proposal at their monthly meeting Monday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy.
Richard Yates, who opposes the charter measure that will be decided by voters Nov. 3, will speak to the group from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
At last month's meeting 109 senior citizens from the Mount Airy area heard proponent Charles Fisher speak in favor of charter government, said Mr. Pickett.
Monday's meeting will be held in the church's upstairs auditorium. Lunch will be served at noon and entertainment will be provided by singers from the Woodbine Good News Bible Church at 12:30 p.m.
In other news, the club's gala Christmas dinner will be held during the first week in December. Members who have attended at least eight meetings during the year will receive a free ticket to the celebration. Other seniors are welcome to attend the party at the cost of $9 per person. The deadline for reservations is Monday.
The club's meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. Area seniors are encouraged to attend. The meetings feature programs of special interest to seniors and a variety of entertainment.
The group also sponsors trips throughout the year. Nine trips have been planned for 1993. Mr. Pickett, who has been president for the past 10 years, said the group will take a three-day trip in November to Pittsburgh and Wheeling, W.Va.
