Lake Shore residents petition for left turn signal
Rush-hour traffic jams at Lake Shore Drive and Mountain Road have led angry Lake Shore residents to demand a left turn signal there.
Sharon Funk, a resident of Belgarden Lane, has collected morthan 100 signatures on a petition among neighbors who want the signal to make left turns easier from the westbound lane of Mountain Road.
Heavy eastbound traffic in the afternoons makes it nearly impossible for westbound drivers to enter Lake Shore Drive, Mrs. Funk said.
"I don't know why no one has been cremated good there," she said.
Former state Del. John Leopold has forwarded Mrs. Funk' petitions to the State Highway Administration.
In his own letter to the SHA, Mr. Leopold suggested that the tur signal be operational only from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., roughly the period parents would pick up their children from Lake Shore Elementary.
Mrs. Funk's is the second proposal to the SHA to upgrade thintersection this month.
State Sen. Philip C. Jimeno, a Brooklyn Park Democrat, asked the SHA three weeks ago to consider reworking the intersection to ease the rush-hour congestion along Mountain Road.
