Howard Community College trustees are scheduled to vote tonight on a $3.3 million capital budget that calls for five new construction projects in 1993-94.
The Board of Trustees also will consider raising President Dwight A. Burrill's salary, which is $96,107, said Randall R. Bengfort, spokesman for the college.
This year, all college employees received a 2.5 percent pay increase. The raises took effect July 1, and if Mr. Burrill is given a raise it would probably be in the same range, Mr. Bengfort said. Like other college employees, Mr. Burrill received no salary increase last year.
The budget proposal calls for a total of nine projects including building renovations, installing fiber-optic cables, and upgrading ventilating systems.
The college's top priorities are renovating a three-story office building in the village of Hickory Ridge and installing an emergency generator.
The college already leases the office building and would like to put classrooms on the second and third floors, Mr. Bengfort said. The project would cost a total of $700,000 and would be an alternative to constructing a new classroom building, which has already been approved by the county government.
The building, a $7.3 million project, was supposed to open in 1993-'94, but has been postponed because of budget problems, Mr. Bengfort said. The building would house classrooms, conference space, offices, and a child-care center.
The generator, which costs $495,000, would provide backup power to the college's phone and computer system, and provide minimal elevator power for disabled individuals and brighter lights in labs.
The 1993-94 capital projects budget request also includes $202,000 to improve roads, upgrade a storage tank, and renovate the campus theater and gym.
The board of trustees will send the capital budget request to the county government in early November, Mr. Bengfort said.
