Columbia man charged in weekend robbery

An 18-year-old Columbia man is being held in lieu of $50,000 at the County Detention Center on armed-robbery charges stemming from a weekend incident, Howard County police said.

Eric T. Hines of the 5400 block of Thunder Hill Road has been charged with armed robbery, assault, theft and a handgun violation, police said.

About 3 a.m. Saturday, Mr. Hines and two friends attended a social gathering at the home of a 20-year-old man on Gentle Folk, police said.

While at the home, Mr. Hines went into the bedroom and removed a shotgun, police said. He and his two friends were trying to leave the house when the homeowner confronted them, police said.

Mr. Hines pointed a small revolver at the homeowner and tried again to leave the house, police said.

The homeowner called police, who obtained a search and seizure warrant for Mr. Hines' home, where they found the shotgun, police said.
