A Scandinavian getaway

In true Viking tradition, Scandinavia is ideal for fall and winter travel. From an enormous variety of options, travelers can

choose bracing Norwegian coastal voyages, cultural opera and ballet weekends in Copenhagen and ski vacations: Serious skiers can try out the slopes Olympic athletes will be using in Lillehammer, Norway, in 1994. You can book a cruise from Stockholm to St. Petersburg or through the archipelago and across the gulf to Helsinki in Finland.

How expensive is it? The prices are lower than last year. A supersaver mini-vacation costs $459 and there are escorted tours, weekends and mini-weeks available. SAS Scandinavia Freestyle city packages include six night plus breakfast and start at $798 from New York.

As part of a major expansion in the Baltics, Russia and the Ukraine, SAS will fly 38 round trips per week to those areas.

Of special interest: Next year, Denmark will be commemorating the 50th anniversary of the heroic rescue of Jews to Sweden.
