This was grudge match No. 2 between longtime rivals South Carroll and Westminster.
And junior Allison Liquefatto gained revenge for the Westminster Owls last night, knocking in a goal with 15 seconds left in the first overtime period to give the Owls a 1-0 victory.
Liquefatto turned perfectly on a corner kick from Heather Mauritz and kicked the ball past Cavaliers goalie Kendra Pulis.
It was the second time this season that Liquefatto ended a game in overtime with a goal for the Owls (7-3).
"When the ball was coming to me I said I wanted it [goal] so badly," said Liquefatto. "We were all so psyched for this game. We were really into it. They had beaten us the first time and won all the titles."
South Carroll (10-1-1) won the first meeting this season, 2-1, and went on to capture the Carroll County and Central Maryland Conference championships.
South Carroll coach Jim Horn said: "We were ripe for an upset, having won the first game and the two league titles. Somebody wasn't marking properly on that final goal by Westminster."
Horn said the Cavaliers would have had the first unbeaten season in the history of Carroll County girls' soccer if they had come away with at least a tie last night.
"But we still had the best record ever in Carroll County," said Horn.
"No one has ever had double figures in terms of victories in one season."
Westminster coach Greg Bright said: "We had to make something happen in this game to stay alive for the state tournament and we did."
The Cavaliers dominated the final 15 minutes of regulation play, with Clutter getting two excellent chances to break up the scoreless tie.
Clutter sent a shot over the cross bar with 15 minutes remaining, and
10 minutes later the high-scoring striker had a shot saved by Westminster goalie Kara Hedges.
In a scoreless first half, Westminster came the closest to scoring on back-to-back shots by Amanda Hunt and Mauritz with 6:12 left.
Hunt drove a shot from 15 yards off the near post, and the ball rebounded to Mauritz who tried to score at the far post. Mauritz's shot also hit the post.
