Marc Horgos' goal five minutes into the match was all the scoring Westminster would need as the Owls defeated visiting South Carroll, 2-0, last night.
Westminster was looking to put an exclamation point on its first county title since 1980, while the Cavaliers were trying to finish unbeaten in their last four games.
Westminster (5-4-1, 4-0) made it clear early who would come out on top of this county match.
Jeff Seaman placed a perfect chip right inside the box for a waiting Horgos, who beat Cavaliers goalie Brian Peltier with a header to the far post.
"That was a set play we worked on and practiced all season long, and we finally got a goal out of it," Westminster coach Chuck Beaver said. "Everyone was where they were supposed to be and it worked out well. It was a nice win."
The loss ended the Cavaliers' three-game county unbeaten streak (2-0-1) as they finish the season 2-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the county.
Westminster had a few chances late in the half to increase its lead, but couldn't find the net.
Jason Hewett, who was able to get around the right corner consistently in the first half, sent a cross to Tony Fiore with 19 minutes left, but Fiore's shot went wide.
Fiore had another opportunity with eight minutes left in the half when he got a ball up the middle but, again, his shot went wide.
South Carroll made some noise in the second half, but a strong Westminster defense turned back all serious threats.
One of the best chances for the Cavaliers came with 17 minutes left when Brian Anderson broke free on the right side and sent a low liner just wide of the near post.
Fiore finally capitalized with a goal in the game's last minute, scoring off a direct kick well outside the 18-yard mark.
The Owls will close out their season Tuesday at home against North Carroll
