Diviaio leads Maryland City
In 75-pound youth football, Justin Diviaio broke loose for 150 yards and three touchdowns in Maryland City's 26-0 defeat of the Gambrills Odenton Recreation Council last Saturday.
Ronnie Tuttle and Ryan Meehan each recovered a fumble on defense, and Jenson and Rau recorded an interception and a sack, respectively. Ivan Ross led the defense with five tackles.
* 95 pounds -- Maryland City fell to Gambrills Odenton Recreation Council, 21-0, Saturday.
Severn saw its record fall to 4-2 in a 6-0 loss to Fort Meade on Saturday.
After allowing a first-quarter score, the Savages' defense held the usually potent Fort Meade offense in check. Near the end of the fourth quarter, Severn's Kirk Barrett ran 45 yards to bring his team inside the 20, but Fort Meade forced a fumble and ran out the clock.
* 115 pounds -- Despite 60 yards passing by Marwan Abuelhawa and 58 rushing yards by Phil Mullinix, Maryland City fell victim to GORC, 26-0, Saturday evening.
Outstanding special-teams play propelled the Fort Meade Cougars (5-1) to a 28-0 shutout of the Severn Savages.
Johnson finished with a 10-yard Quarterback David Williams' 7-yard run in overtime gave visiting Severn its first win of the season, 7-0 over Cape St. Claire on Saturday night.
Youth soccer
* 1979 girls -- The Millersville Sports Association Cougars lost a 1-0 decision last week to Mountain Road No. 21. Erin Engle, Erin Estep, Cristi Schmehling, Keli Hubert and keeper Stacy Long turned in fine defensive performances for the Cougars.
* Under-12 boys -- The Severna Park Sting overpowered the St. Jane Booters last Friday, 3-0, in a Dundalk League matchup.
Travis Wells, Sean McGarry and Adam Young each had one goal and one assist for the Sting.
On Sunday, Severna Park dropped a 2-1 decision to the Potomac Knights. Young scored the Sting's goal on a feed from Mark Stickler.
* Under-9 boys -- The Severna Park Raiders upped their Baltimore Beltway League record to 4-0 last week with a 6-0 win over the Arundel Soccer Association Lightning.
Danny Polm and Kyle Dixon led the way for the Raiders with two goals each, and Brian Borden and Simon Groseclose chipped in one goal apiece.
* 10-year-old girls -- The Cape St. Claire Cougars (0-4-1) bowed to GARCI last week, 1-0.
Playing well on the defensive end for the Cougars were sweeper Erin Posson, fullback Nianque Early and goalie Kristen Trudeau (three saves).
* 9-year-old girls -- Josie Owens and Lindsay Harris scored a goal each as the Jessup-Province Youth Organization Wildthings tied Arden, 2-2, Saturday.
Amanda Roberts led the way defensively for JPYO with seven saves. Erica Webber, Katie Grant, Dana Calambro and Laura Shores turned in solid all-around performances.
* 8-year-old boys -- Brent Edwards posted a goal and an assist for the JPYO Hurricanes, who downed Mountain Road Soccer, 2-0, Saturday.
Gerard Jones added an assist, and Josh Ducey led a staunch defensive effort with five saves. The Hurricanes also received outstanding play from Steven Little and Justin Bradshaw.
* 9-year-old boys -- By virtue of their 4-0 shutout win over Greater Glen Burnie, the JPYO Hotshots remained in first place in Division II of the county league.
Tony Merino led the scoring with two goals and an assist, and Mike Pittman (one assist) and Mike Cheman added goals. Jason Skowronski and Jeremy Dempsey added single assists for the Hotshots.
* 11-year-old boys -- The JPYO Executors dropped a 4-3 decision to the RAA Rangers in a Division 3B game Saturday.
Stephen King netted two goals in a losing cause, and Andy Myers scored a goal and registered three saves while playing one half at goalkeeper. David Langehine totaled four saves.
* 12-year-old boys -- Consistent offense combined with stellar defense in JPYO No. 5's 3-0 triumph over Fort Meade on Saturday.
Mark Cunningham led all scorers with two goals, as Ben Bell booted in a single goal. Midfielders Timmy Campbell, Eddie Schupach Nick Tackett, and goalie Matt Nein helped the JPYO defensive effort, while Zia Faiz-Tompkins turned in a solid-all around game.
* JPYO 1st-3rd graders -- Josue Merino and Brandon Patterson each posted a hat trick in the Red Devils' 9-2 victory over the Fireballs.
Megan Grant furnished two goals for the winners, and Willie Campo added one to go with three saves while in goal. Merino split time with Campo in the nets, garnering four saves.
Adam O'Connor and Matthew DeStefano registered a goal each for the Fireballs, who also got assists from Randy Rey and Loye Yokum.
* In another 1st-3rd grade matchup, the Terminators lived up to their name by knocking off the Blazers, 5-0.
Chris Sidebottom led the charge with four goals, and Mathew Taylor had one. Jeff Backman turned in a game-high two assists, and T. J. Baker, Brandon Hamby, and Robert Carbaugh each had an assist.
* Kindergarten league -- The Sharks and the Turtles battled to a scoreless tie Saturday, as goalie Kyle Armstrong made three saves. Other defensive mainstays were Jacob Williams, Laken Roberts and Thomas Skowronski.
* 15-and under girls -- With the help of two goals from Shauna Donahue, the Arundel Kickers beat the Fairfax Poison, 3-1, Sunday.
Jessica Baker added the other goal, and Ruth Wilson chipped in with an assist. Coach Mel Kohler credited the defensive unit for dominating their opposition. Marcia Lavin made two saves, and Kari Christian made one.
