Dickinson player suffers neck injury

A member of the Dickinson College junior varsity football team was injured yesterday during the last five minutes of a game against Western Maryland at the Scott S. Bair Stadium.

Chris Mooney, a freshman linebacker from Scarsdale, N.Y., was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police MedEvac helicopter with neck injuries. He was hurt in the fourth quarter after he hit an opposing player with his head down.

"He has a slight deformity of the neck and tingling sensations throughout his body but has feeling in his extremities," said medical technician Carl Luksic.

Mooney was conscious when medical crews arrived and was placed on a wooden board with his helmet still in place to act as a brace, Luksic said.

The game was stopped with 4:25 left and Western Maryland leading 13-6.
