This Columbia-based company, which provides services for the handling of radioactive and hazardous waste, posted a profit in the third quarter as sales increased 75 percent.

"We are proud of the progress we made through the first three quarters of 1992," said Robert E. Prince, president and chief executive.

But Mr. Prince cautioned that the company's business depends on nuclear power plant refueling and maintenance, which change seasonally and can be rescheduled with little notice.

The company has management staff of about 70 people and more than 500 in field operations.
