High school construction on schedule

North County High to open for 1993

The new North County High School should be completed on schedule, in time for the 1993-1994 school year, a Board of Education official told the Linthicum-Shipley Improvement Association yesterday.

Mike Raible, director of planning and construction for county public schools, showed the group site and floor plans for the proposed 260,000-square-foot school.

The Linthicum building, which once housed Lindale Junior High School, will accommodate 1,600 students.

Students from the former Brooklyn Park and Andover high schools who now attend North County High School at the old Andover building will attend the new school.

Contractors will work double shifts on the $15.6 million project, .. renovating 216,000 square feet and building a 34,000-square-foot addition to house an auditorium and classrooms, Mr. Raible said.

Once students move out of Andover at the end of this school year, that building will be renovated for the middle school students now attending Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School.

Workers will begin a six-month asbestos-removal project there next summer, then spend 18 months renovating the school.

The final cost will be $13.7 million, Mr. Raible said.
