Pit bull chases children, is subdued by police

A snarling pit bull ran loose in an Annapolis neighborhood Saturday morning, chasing a group of children to the top of a picnic table and lunging at a police officer before being subdued, city police said.

Annapolis police were called to Cutter Court, a residential street off Forest Drive, after a neighbor saw the dog run after the children.

When Officer Pierre Pyle arrived, he saw the dog barking and growling in front of the picnic table.

The dog ran down the street, but turned when it spotted the officer and charged him, police said.

Officer Pyle shot at the dog, but missed. He then called for backup officers and notified Animal Control, police said.

A neighbor who was taking care of the dog while its owners were away helped the officer subdue it.
