Marine took part in search for downed plane ELLICOTT CITY/ELKRIDGE

Marine Lance Cpl. Dmitri Wasilewski, son of Peter J. Wasilewski of Ellicott City, recently participated in the search for the Italian cargo plane that went down while flying a United Nations relief mission to Sarajevo.

A member of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Lejeune, N.C., Corporal Wasilewski flew the mission aboard a CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter from the USS Iwo Jima, which was participating in Operation Provide Promise in the Adriatic Sea at the time of the incident.

During the mission, the Navy helicopters drew small-arms ground fire, which they evaded and returned safely to the Iwo Jima.

Corporal Wasilewski is a 1988 graduate of Glenelg High School. He joined the Marine Corps in February 1989.

* Ellicott City: 9400 block of Tiller Drive: Between Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, someone destroyed a wooden pole and a metal mailbox.

10200 Pinebough Court: Someone broke a lock to a shed and stole a $110 leaf blower sometime before Sept. 28.

2500 block of Ashbrook Drive: Between Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, someone spray-painted the left side of a house with multicolor paints.

9600 block of Gudel Drive: Between Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, someone spray-painted a profane word and "U.U." on a 1991 Ford Taurus.

9300 block of Baltimore National Pike: On Sept. 24, someone used a slim jim-type tool to try to enter a 1992 Lincoln. Entry wasn't gained and nothing was stolen.

9600 block of Gudel Drive: Between Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, someone stole a $20 black mailbox and a $10 mailbox post.

4600 block of Roundhill Road: On Sept. 25, someone broke mailbox and then left it on a yard.
