Texas Rangers -- Signed four-year player development contracts with Charleston, S.C., in the Single-A South Atlantic League and Erie, Pa., of the Single-A New York-Penn League. Charleston replaces Gastonia, N.C., also of the South Atlantic League, which moved to Hickory, N.C. Erie takes the place of Butte, Mont., of the Pioneer League.

U.S. Olympic Committee -- Membership committee voted to recommend the suspension of the team handball and karate organizations for possible violations of the USOC constitution and the Amateur Sports Act.
FIFA -- Soccer's governing body lifted the ban on international matches at Defenders of Chaco Stadium in Zurich, Switzerland. The ban was imposed in February after riots during a pre-Olympic youth tournament.
