The Frederick co-housing Development Corporation has selected Hammond Associates Architects in Annapolis to design the first co-housing project in the mid-Atlantic region.

Co-housing is a cooperative living arrangement in which a group of families band together, buy land, design and build small houses clustered around a larger "common house" which they share for meals, child-care, recreation, crafts-hobbies, laundry, and to house overnight guests. The concept is relatively new to this country, but well-established in Denmark, Holland and Sweden.

Hammond will lead a team of engineers and architects to create the design, and final drawings are expected within six months.
