Carlsten is named center nurse manager

The North Arundel Hospital Professional Center has named Christine E. Carlsten as nurse manager of its Oncology Center.

Ms. Carlsten's responsibilities include supervising personnel and establishing educational programs and support systems for patients. She previously was employed as a nurse manager for the Mt. Sinai Medical Center's Oncology Unit in Miami Beach, Fla.

Ms. Carlsten is a 1982 graduate of the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. She is completing her bachelor's degree in nursing at the Johns Hopkins University. A native of Hartford, Conn., Ms. Carlsten and her husband live in Towson.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Ann Loper and Lilliane Sullivan have been named as oncology nurses at the center.

Their responsibilities include administering chemotherapy and other medications, assessing patients' progress educating patients on their treatments and documenting medical information for physicians.

Ms. Loper previously served as an oncology staff nurse at the Church Home Hospital Center in Baltimore.

Ms. Sullivan previously worked in the Chemotherapy Outpatient Department and as an IV therapy nurse at Harbor Hospital Center.

Dr. Jon Williams and Dr. Robert Marcus of Psychological Services Inc. were among more than 18,000 psychologists celebrating the 100th anniversary of the American Psychological Association at its annual convention this month in Washington.

Dr. Marcus, a senior child psychologist at the Annapolis office of Psychological Services, presented two papers on adolescent problems.

Dr. Williams was awarded his diplomate by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and the American Board of Family Psychology recognized him for his contribution to family psychology. He is executive director of Psychological Services.

Barris is appointed as clinical director

John Barris of Annapolis has been named clinical director of New Beginnings at Meadows Annapolis Outpatient Center, a chemical dependency treatment program.

Mr. Barris is a addictions counselor with a bachelor's in psychology and post-graduate training at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh.

He previously was an administrator of a full-time addictions treatment and referral program at the county Detention Center. Mr. Barris recently worked as an addictions counselor at Meadows' Annapolis center.

In another appointment, Art Harris, of Annapolis, has been named program director of New Beginnings.

Mr. Harris was the director of addiction treatment programs at the Bethesda Naval Hospital and was the first executive director of Hope House.

Weinberg joins hospital as chief of accounting

Debra Weinberg has joined Harbor Hospital Center's Finance Division as director of accounting.

A certified public accountant, Ms. Weinberg's responsibilities include handling the general and corporate accounting.
