Glen Burnie pair accused of fraud

A Glen Burnie man and a juvenile have been charged with falsely reporting to police that they had been victims of an armed robbery.

Their report on Thursday led county police to arrest a Baltimore man, who was released later in the day when the alleged fraud was discovered, police said.

Leo Anthony Weigand, 19, of the 6400 block of Centennial Circle in Glen Burnie, and a juvenile were charged in the incident.

Police said the two told authorities that they had been assaulted and robbed in the parking lot of Giant Food on Mountain Road. They gave a description and the license plate number of a van, which police stopped on the Key Bridge.

The driver of the van, Tod Louis Moberly, 29, of Baltimore, was arrested based on information police had from the apparent victims.

But police said that when they interviewed the Glen Burnie man and the juvenile separately, their stories did not match. The two admitted making a false report, police said.

Mr. Moberly was released without charge.

Armed pair steals bicycles from 2 men

Two men were robbed of their bicycles Thursday evening by a man with a handgun.

Kevin Thompson, 19, and Michael Brenchley, 20, of the 600 block of Everett Road, told police they were riding on Fifth Avenue near Crain Highway in Glen Burnie at about 7:20 p.m.

They said two men came up to them and demanded the bikes. When the victims refused, one of the suspects pointed a small handgun at them, took the bikes and left in a blue pickup truck.
