Coach: Doug DuVall, 20th year
1991 record: 13-0
Returnees: Seniors Nate Cassella (LB/QB/FB), Paul Knox (S/LB/FL), Donald Gibson (LB/FB), Cedric Benning (DT/C), Craig Butler (WR/CB), Reggie Alston (WR/CB), Ben Miller (T), Chance Kelly (RB/LB), Eric Lach (G).
Newcomers to watch: Senior Chris Beverly (NG); Juniors Mike Green (RB/LB), Jay Green (T), Seth Willingham (QB/S), Shawn Dunford (CB); Sophomore Carlo Girstenfeld (G).
Coach's outlook: "We have good speed and good skill on the perimeter, but the question is, how good will we be up front? The other question is, can we be one of the smallest schools ever to repeat as state champions? The kids say yes. The coach says we want to be ranked No. 1 at the end of the season."
Howard County Sun outlook: Only the Wildecats could lose seven All-County players to graduation and still be favored to win county and state titles. That's because the Wildecats still have enough talent and experience to win both. The question is, can they extend their 26-game winning streak to 39? With their speed, proven players like Cassella, Knox and Gibson, and budding stars like Green, Butler and Willingham, don't bet against it.
