Baseball National League -- President Bill White denied a protest by the Pittsburgh Pirates of Monday night's 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pirates manager Jim Leyland protested the game, claiming a second-inning double by Jose Lind should have been a home run. With the Dodgers leading 1-0 in the second inning, Lind hit a fly ball to left field that hit the fence and then was deflected over the fence by Tom Goodwin. White ruled that because the ball hit the fence before Goodwin's glove, it was no longer "in flight" under baseball rules.
