A 38-year-old former roller skating coach who was convicted in October of raping two teen-age girls, pleaded guilty yesterday to raping a third girl who was a member of his skating team.
vTC Bernard Willard Remmey of the 7800 block Sellner Road in Jessup was convicted of second-degree rape of a 13-year-old girl and sentenced to five years in jail.
The sentence is to be served concurrently with the 17 years he now is serving on the other second-degree rape convictions and for parole violations.
Assistant State's Attorney Kathleen E. Rogers said the third victim was assaulted several times between May 7 and Oct. 27, 1990, including one occasion when Remmey got her drunk at his home in a trailer park in Jessup.
Ms. Rogers said the girl did not tell anyone about the assaults until the day of Remmey's sentencing for the previous rape convictions last Dec. 11. Ms. Rogers said the girl, who was a witness in the other cases, was afraid to tell anyone that she also had been raped because Remmey had threatened to kill her.
Immediately after a judge sentenced Remmey to 10 years in prison on the other charges, the girl told prosecutors that Remmey also had raped her.
Ms. Rogers said the girl was assaulted several times. The first incident was at a roller rink in Howard County. Another incident occurred at Remmey's home after Remmey had gotten her drunk. In that case, the girl said, Remmey raped her when she went into the bathroom.
The girl's accusations were similar to those of a 12-year-old member of the Laurel Lazers skating team, who said Remmey got her drunk and raped her at his trailer in August 1990. The man also raped her in July 1990 in an equipment room at the Laurel Skating Center, prosecutors said.
In addition to pleading guilty to rape of the 12-year-old, Remmey also pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old Old Mill High student in the back of his van. Prosecutors said Remmey bought liquor and drove to a secluded area near Crownsville where he assaulted the girl several times.
