Arundel High School students who will participate in sports this school year will be given free physicals at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Sports Medicine Center in Annapolis. The center is on Rowe Boulevard, across from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Juniors and seniors interested in trying out for the football team will meet at 9 a.m. tomorrow, and ninth- and 10th-graders at 9 a.m. Friday in the physical education area in the school.
The Gambrills Teen Club will play host to the third annual Rod Run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Gambrills Athletic Club on McKnew Road. The event is open to vehicles made in 1972 or earlier. Spaces for all registered vehicles will be available. Rodder registration is $8, $12 at the gate. Gates will open for rodders at 8 a.m. Food, beverages, games, contests and '50s and '60s music will be available throughout the day.
Registered rodders will have the opportunity to win trophies for Best of Show, Best Open Rod, Best Street Machine, Best Truck (pre-'72), Ladies Choice, Best Late Model, Best Pro Street, Best Closed Rod, Best Custom, Best Truck (pre-'48), Poker Run, Best Paint, Long Distance, Best Engine, Club Participation and Best Antique.
Admission is free. Proceeds will benefit the Gambrills Teen Club and the Gambrills Athletic Club Building Fund.

The Fort Meade Retired Officers' Wives' Club kicks off with a 15th anniversary Welcome Coffee at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at the Fort Meade Officers' Club.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling a member of the Luncheon Reservation Committee no later than noon Aug. 27.

A sign language program for children and parents will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Provinces Branch Library in Severn. The program, titled "Rhyme it in Sign," is open to first- through sixth-graders and their parents. Participants will learn the finger alphabet and basic signs through favorite rhymes. The program coincides with National Deaf Awareness Week, Sept. 20-26.
The Faith Community Church will sponsor a concert starring the John Miller Family at 11 a.m. Aug. 30. John, Carole Lee and their two daughters, Jennifer, 15, and Jodie, 14, have presented more than 900 programs in 19 states and Canada. They combine vocal, violin, piano, bells and accordion arrangements.
Faith Community Church is located at Waugh Chapel Road and Route 3 North beside the fire station in Gambrills.
The 13th annual Odenton Community Fair and Rummage Sale will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 1419 Odenton
The day's events will include games for children, items for sale by community crafts people, produce, raffles, flowers, baked goods, Odenton T-shirts and hats, tractor rides, a magic show and a rummage sale. Food will include hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on the grill, pit beef and homemade treats.
