STRATTON MOUNTAIN, Vt. -- Florence Descampe has won five titles across the ocean, but the 23-year-old Belgian placed her first LPGA victory on a different level.
All victories are good, "but this is like reaching a dream. To win here is to win with the best," she said after beating the tour's leading money-winner, Dottie Mochrie, for the win.
Descampe, an LPGA rookie who started the day two shots behind Mochrie and Cindy Rarick, birdied the 13th hole to pull ahead and finished with a 4-under par 67 for a 72-hole score of 6-under 278.
Mochrie, playing one hole behind Descampe, parred the 13th and unsuccessfully chased her the rest of the way. Mochrie, who started the day 4-under for the tournament in her quest for a second straight victory, barely missed a 30-foot putt on No. 18 and then bogeyed the hole for an even-par 71 and a 280.
