Richard E. Lukens, a security officer at Goucher College i Towson, died of cancer Thursday at the Fort Howard Veterans Administration Hospital Center. He was 57.

Services for Mr. Lukens, who lived in Dulaney Towers in Towson, will be held at 7 tonight at St. Stephen's Traditional Episcopal Church, which holds services at the Brown Memorial Presbyterian Chapel, 6200 N. Charles St.

A native of Baltimore, Mr. Lukens joined the Navy in 1952 immediately after graduating from City College. He served 20 years in the Navy, including active duty during the Korean and Vietnam wars, and retired as a chief petty officer in 1972.

After leaving the Navy, Mr. Lukens, known as "Buddy" to his friends, worked in California and Nevada for several years before settling in Towson. For the past three years, he worked as a security officer at Goucher College.

He is survived by a son, Michael E. Lukens of Las Vegas; and a sister, Florence Kenton of Towson.

The family suggested memorial contributions to St. Stephen's Traditional Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 16365, Baltimore 21210.
