Clara Zuriff Active in religious groups


Clara Zuriff, who was active in many religious and community organizations, died of cancer Aug. 1 at Sinai Hospital.

Mrs. Zuriff, who was 84 and lived in the Windsor House Apartments on Park Heights Avenue, was a former president and member of the board of the Talmudical Academy Auxiliary, which had named her a life member and honored her as a Queen Mother of Torah.

She was also a life member of the auxiliary of the Bais Yaakov School and of the Amit Women, in which she had also served as a member of the local board. A member of the Shaarei Zion Congregation and Sisterhood, she also served on the board of the Beth Jacob Sisterhood.

She did volunteer work at Sinai Hospital and at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center for nearly 30 years.

The former Clara Bender was a native of Poland who moved to Baltimore as a child with her family.

Her husband, Nathan Zuriff, retired owner of a wholesale business, the Maryland Notions House, died in 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Z. Rothstein of Owings Mills and Eileen M. Hotz of Pikesville; a son, Gerald E. Zuriff of Cambridge, Mass.; a sister, Mitzi Taubman of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday at Sol Levinson & Bros. funeral home.
