1 slain, 1 wounded in city holdups

A city cabdriver who had just gotten off work was slain and a man hailing a cab for his girlfriend was shot in unrelated robbery attempts early yesterday on the streets of Baltimore, police said.

Charles Antwon Moore, 33, of the first block of Stemmers Run Road, Essex, was accosted by two men and shot to death shortly after 3 a.m. in the 2400 block of W. Franklin St. as he waited for a bus after getting off work at the Royal Cab Co. a few blocks away, police said.

In the other incident, Larry Washington, 19, of the 500 block of E. 43rd St., was shot and wounded while hailing a cab for his girlfriend in front of his North Baltimore home.

He told police that an armed man approached him about 4 a.m. and demanded his money. When Mr. Washington said he had none, the gunman fired five or six shots, one of which struck him in the neck.

Mr. Washington was in fair and stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
