Suns fall, 2-1, in 14 innings


BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Hagerstown Suns (44-51) hung on for 14 innings before losing, 2-1, to the Eastern League-leading Binghamton Mets (58-38) in the first game of a Double-A doubleheader last night.

Winning pitcher Gregg Langbehn went 3 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out two. Loser Tim Drummond pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up one run.

Binghamton's leadoff batter, Rob Katzaroff, singled and stole second before Bert Hunter tripled for a 1-0 score in the first. Hagerstown tied it in the fourth on an RBI single by Paul Carey. In the final inning, Hunter singled to right and advanced to second on Drummond's balk. With a 2-0 count, Brook Fordyce singled to left for the game-winner.
