Grant to pay for health screenings for women


The county Health Department will receive a $147,062 grant this year as its share of a $3 million grant the Centers for Disease Control awarded to Maryland.

MA The money will be released over a five-year period to pay for

breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services for 700 women over the age of 50 who have no health insurance.

Services will include screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, clinical breast examinations, Pap tests, pelvic examinations, and cervical cancer diagnostic services.

The Health Department will receive the money in early September and will work with private health-care providers to offer the services.
