Man, 25, charged in store robbery

County police have charged a 25-year-old man with robbery after a Brooklyn Park convenience store was robbed yesterday morning.

Alvis Harris, of no fixed address, also was charged with theft and assault, police said.

Detectives say Harris allegedly walked into the 7-Eleven store in the 4000 block of Ritchie Highway at 2 a.m., grabbed the clerk around the neck and threw him to the ground.

He took money from the safe and cash register and two cartons of Newport cigarettes, police said.

Officer Brandon McFayden, who was on patrol a short time later, saw Harris walking along Patapsco Avenue near Hanover Street about two blocks from the 7-Eleven.

McFayden reported that he found the money from the store in the suspect's front pockets.

During his investigation, McFayden said, he found that Harris had taken a cab after robbing the store and left the cartons of cigarettes inside.
