Budget approval set

UNION BRIDGE -- The Town Council will vote on a proposed budget at the 7 p.m. meeting Monday in Town Hall.

Mayor Perry L. Jones Jr. proposed a $356,800 budget that would keep the tax rate at 68 cents per $100 of assessed value. At a public hearing June 2, no residents commented on the budget.

Also on the agenda:

* Town Attorney John Maguire will present drafts for a parking ordinance and zoning regulations on fencing of residential property.

* Councilman Selby M. Black will give a brief update on renovations to the Pump House, which, when completed, will become the new Town Hall.

* The town's new sewer plant operator, Fred Haifley, will also be in attendance.

Discuss shooting range

The county Recreation and Parks Advisory Board will accept public comment on a proposal to establish an outdoor shooting range at the Hoods Mill Landfill at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carroll County Education Center, 495 S. Center St., Westminster.

County sports clubs have been trying to find a suitable outdoor location for rifle and pistol shooting for several years. Other proposed sites were rejected or opposed by the public.

The landfill site, off Hoods Mill Road west of Route 97 and 1,000 feet north of the Howard County border, is not near subdivisions. It is one of the few possible range sites in the county that are not close to homes, said John P. Little, Department of Recreation and Parks director.

MA The advisory board and Carroll County Sportsmen's Association

members expressed support for the proposal at a May meeting.
