County police have charged two Baltimore men with robbery after they tried to steal $500 from a 71-year-old Odenton man Friday night.

Robert Turnbull Gillespie, 25, of the 2100 block of Sidney Ave., and Michael Richard Hughes, 28, of the 4200 block of Twin Circle Way, also were charged with theft and battery, police said.

Officers said the elderly man was walking in the 8100 block of Telegraph Road when the assailants drove up to him and tried to steal his wallet. The victim gripped the wallet and was dragged a short distance before the two men let him go and drove off.

Police say they caught the suspects at a nearby intersection and brought them to Western District station to be charged.
