Sayles has film, needs a title

Anybody have a title for John Sayles?

The film maker responsible for works including "City of Hope," "Eight Men Out," "Matewan" and "The Return of the Secaucus Seven" is in the editing room these days, working on something he calls "the Louisiana project."

But that's not the film's title. "I just never came up with one that I like," he said. "We have had contests among cast and crew and among local people down in Acadiana," he said, referring to the area of Louisiana where he shot the film. "It's difficult because it's a drama that's not a tragedy, but it's funny, but it's not 'Naked Gun 2 1/2 .' You're kind of in that dramedy area, which is always kind of hard to find a good title for."

The Louisiana project stars Mary McDonnell of "Matewan" and "Dances With Wolves" and Alfre Woodard of "Cross Creek" and "Miss Firecracker."

"It's about a famous soap-opera actress who's paralyzed in an accident," Mr. Sayles said, referring to Ms. McDonnell's role in his film. Sayles said he expects the Louisiana project to open next year.
