Doner ad agency unveils shuffle of top executives

W. B. Doner, Baltimore's largest advertising agency, announced a restructuring effective yesterday that the company said was designed to ensure its future order of succession.

Herb Fried, Doner's chairman and chief executive officer since 1973, resigned those posts and became chairman of the executive committee.

Jim Dale, the agency's president since 1990, assumed Mr. Fried's titles of chairman and chief executive.

Alan Kalter, vice chairman, relinquished that title and became president and chief operating officer.

Don Riesett, vice chairman, gave up that title and will move to the agency's London office as president of Doner International.

The agency also said yesterday that Steve LaGattuta, who was vice chairman of international business development, had resigned to pursue other interests. He worked in Doner's Detroit office.

Mr. Fried said he would remain head of the agency but would share responsibilities with the others on the management team.

As chairman of the executive committee, he takes the title that was held by the agency's founder, W. B. "Brod" Doner, until his death two years ago.

"We're preparing ourselves for the future," Mr. Fried said.

He said there would be no changes in the company's operations.
